Amazing Health and Beauty Benefits of Geraniums!

Mattify eve the Oiliest Skin! Geranium truly is a miracle worker for
problem skin. Its gentle astringent properties cleanse and tone by
removing surface oil and dead skin cells. And that's the key to a smooth,
luminous complexion, says Francesca Fusco, M.D., a dermatologist at the
Wexler Dermatology Group in New York City. But that's not all: Once the
pore-clogging oil is removed, geranium penetrates pores and heals
existing pimples with its scientifically proven antibacterial abilities.

Get Healthy, Lustrous Locks! It's no wonder geranium is now being used
in so many shampoos and conditioners! Scientists have discovered that
the oil-balancing nature of this flower restores equilibrium to the
scalp by regulating sebum production and moisturizing the skin around the
hair follicles. As a result, hair grows stronger and healthier, explains
Rhonda DiRado, director of spa development and treatments at the
Giacomo & Rondi salon in Boston. And when applied to ends of hair, geranium
oil's hydrating capabilities control frizz and amp up shine.

Balance Mood Swings. The aroma of geranium offers a refuge from
mood-sapping anxiety by stimulating the adrenal cortex, the brain region that
regulates the body's stress response. The adrenal cortex also helps to
balance sex hormones such as estrogen. This can be particularly helpful
in quelling the hormonal flux that triggers PMS, asserts Stephanie
Tourles, aromatherapist and author of The Herbal Body Book. Just take a
whiff anytime to let the scent soothe away your cares.

Victorian Geranium Powder. Stay fresh and dry with this deodorant
recipe from the always-composed ladies of the Victorian period. The geranium
oil neutralizes odors while the cornstarch absorbs moisture.

1 cup cornstarch
6-8 fresh geranium leaves, rinsed and dried
1-2 drops essential oil of geranium (optional)

Place the cornstarch, leaves and essential oil in a resealable jar. Let
the powder sit for about 3 days, shaking the container once daily to
ensure the geranium disperses evenly throughout the cornstarch. Remove
and discard the leaves, then pour the powder into a dry container.
Sprinkle onto skin after showering.
